 This term we have been learning how to speak Te Reo Maori.

 Sealers and Whalers arrival in Aotearoa.

Why did whalers and sealers come to NZ?   Because of a European out post.	When did whalers come to NZ?   Late 1820’s	When did sealers arrive in NZ? 1791
What is sealing and whaling? It means catching seals and using their fur to sell for good money and whaling is the same thing but they were wanting whales to use in oils.	How did whalers kill whales? They fired a harpoon to the whale when they spotted it and the whale would drag the vessel until it was exhausted. A harpoon is a long spear that is attached to a long rope. A vessel is a ship.	How did sealers kill seals? They used firearms or hakapiks which is a heavy woooden club with a hammer head and a metal hook at the end.
What did ‘hunters’ gain from seals and whales? Seals - They used the seals fur to sell for money and also their bones. Whales - They used whales for oil and also their bonese.	Which areas did whalers and sealers congregate? Seals were found in the new zealan mainland and the Antipodes, Auckland, bounty, campbell, chatham and smears islands. Whalers found whales in kaikora.	What nationality were most sealers and whalers? Maori, french, American, European.

 All of the students in tangaroa have been making self portraits. I have been working on mine for the past week and i trying to finish it off today. I did a whole page of plants withj eyes and a mouth because i really like plants. Here is a picture of mine half done.

Trip to town

 On monday 29 of march, most of Rawhiti school went on a trip to town on the buses. When we got there, we got instrutions from the teachers and then we had to do activities on a sheet that we got given at school. The activities were like 'what is this about and can you design your own?' so we had to go find the thing that was with that question somewhere in the victoria square and we had heaps of those questions and answers we had to complete. I only had 4 more questions to finish out of ten. Then the year 7's came back from margret mahy playground and we had lunch after lunch, we got together and walked to the town hall wich was right next to the victoria square so it didnt take long at all. We got to the town hall and the people that needed to go to the toilet got to go inside first once we went to the toilet we went inside the room that the show was going to be held. The play was called Tumahana. It was about how papatuanuku and Takaroa had kids and they were the maori gods and how they pushed their parents appart so that there was a skye and a ground so some childeren of thiers got mad at the others and they were fighting. The people in the play were all on the silks and ropes and more circus stuff. I really enjoyed it because they had good skils.

surfing at sumner

On tuesday 23.03.21, a group of kids from tangaroa went to sumner to get a surf lesson for beginners and just to surf for most of the day. We got to sumner about 9:20 am and got straight into our wetsuits and then we had a little bit of a lesson, then we went in the water. The water was so nice and so was the surf. I caught some really good waves and me and isla got out after like 2 hours or an hour and a half then we went down to the changing rooms near the surf club where the showers were and we didnt know that every one was looking for us because they didnt know that we went to the changing rooms near the surf club and we had the keys to my mums car because she took me and my friends to sumner anyways me and isla were getting changed and having showers in our wetsuits, then we were ready and we went and got hot chips. I got hot chips to share with my mum and a really yum ice cream.
