                        We have all finished our second Artworks and this is         how mine turned out. I think I improved a little bit because its more neat and it didn't take me as long to get a good color for both the sea and sky. This artwork was painted from South Brighton looking down to New Brighton and the pier in the distance.

Art inquiry

In Tane Mahuta we have been working on art for inquiry.

We went on a walk around New Brighton on the 25th of October.

We went as a class and and sketched and took photos of bits of New Brighton that we maybe wanted to paint or water color. 

The next day for inquiry, we mixed colors to make other colors.

After, we experienced water colors and I had my own ones and me and my friends used them. Then after some paint mixing and water coloring, we started to do our light sketch. Once we had all finished our sketches, we were ready for painting.

I did the pier railing looking out to the port hills and a view of the South Brighton beach.

It took me a while to get the right color for the sky and the sea but eventually, I got the right colors and I was finished with my painting. We all had to try and make two paintings.

I am really happy with my painting.

winter sport

                          Winter Sports

For mostly all of this term and half of last term, we have been ding winter sports. The practices were on most Wednesdays and in the mornings. And the real games were on Friday afternoons. There were lots of choices. There was: Capture the flag, Soccer, Netball, Bowls, And Table tennis. Anika, Lily, Skye and I, chose soccer. Me, Anika and Lily were in the team called Roadrunners and Skye and Mailli were in another team called the Rebles. We had loads of fun kicking the balls around while we waited for the first or second halves to finish. My favorite position was deffence and sometimes goaly.  When we had finished the games, we came back to school for prize giving. I got player of the day 1 or 2 times. I really enjoyed my experience of soccer and doing winter sports. Next year, i might do Netball or try something new. What would you do for winter sports next year? 

2nd Science rotation

Kathys kiawhina have been working with Talei for inquiry and we have been learning about pollution. We had nine sessions and that gave us time to do lots of experiments.

We did the car exhaust experiment(sock over exhaust pipe), air pollution(paper with chapstick on it),melting ice(4 trays, with big ice cubes ad small ones put glad wrap over each one and see which melts fastest).

For the air pollution we had microscopes to put on the ipad and look at the bits of pollution from there. We saw lots of pollen around the little kids classes, some bits of black pollution around where cars come and go to drop off and about the same for the teachers car park.

After we had done the experiments, we watched videos on greenhouse gasses and global warming.
It was a really fun experience learning with Talei and doing the fun experiments and how to keep the earth healthy.

Eco-systems!

                        

             🌵Eco-systems!🌵
For the last two weeks, we have been working with Talei making Eco-systems and learning about keeping the planet healthy and safe. We have watched a few videos of places that the sea was rising, and about global warming. So we have all made our own Eco-systems.
An Eco-system has to include:
A producer.( plants/things that produce food)
A consumer.(something that eats)

A decomposer.(breaks down the old food such as worms and fungi)

For the ones that Skye, Anika and I made you will need:
1 plastic Re-usable container.
However many rocks.
Soil.
Worms.
Snails (Optional)

1 plant.
                 Making the Eco-systems.your container and make holes in the top and bottom.
Put about 5-6 holes in the top and 3 in the bottom just so the water can drain out and the snails can breath.
2.Put rocks at the bottom. Use approximately 10 small rocks to fill the bottom of the container.
3.Then fill half way with soil and put the worms in. Make sure to wear gloves while doing this.
4.Now you have to plant the seeds that you have chosen. We chose to use sweet pea and we put 4 seeds in.
5.Water the seeds. Dont put to much water otherwise it will drown the worms.
6. Finally, add your snails and give them some carrot and dandelion leaves (if you have any)

13.09.19                             Kitchen Science
From July 14th to August 8th, we had Science sessions. We grouped up in kiawhinas and learnt aout different types of Science. I was in Kathys kiawhina and we learnt about kitchen Science and solids to gases. We did lots of cool experiments like Elephant toothpaste, Homeade lemonade, Magic milk, Plastic milk,-which we couldn’t figure out right- and 4 others.
I really enjoyed working with kthy because she made everything so exciting when we were oing the experiments. My favourite experiment ws the Elephant toothpaste because it was amazing to see the chemichal change from the liquid to like a foamy toothpaste looking texture. I also ejoyed learning lots of different Science words that lots of real scientest would use. After our 9 sessions, we our rotating around and now, Kathys kiawhina is learning a different type of Science that is about eco systems and global warming/saving the planet.

The box

5.08.19 Movie

“The Box” I peep out from behind the musty clock. Food. I see food. I scuttle out further to see if the coast was clear. Yes it was. I run towards the kitchen bench, footsteps I run behind the big chair and wait till it was silent. I hear breathing I look up and see a face. An old but kind face. He sees me and ducks down. Now;s my chance. I sprint to the bench and look for some way to get to the treasure. Yes! There is a half open draw that I can jump up onto and climb to the top. Almost there and yes I made it. Oh no. He’s coming! I will have to hide behind the oats. He finds me. Suddenly, there is darkness. A box. Well i think it is. Then the box lifts up and I see the man. He is staring at me with his kind old face holding a crumb. He nibbles the crumb. He is showing me how to eat it. He stops and looks at me, then he hands me another crumb and he waits. I eat the crumb just as he did. And I am covered up again by the box. How rude is he. First he covers me up in a box, then he shows me how to eat a crum. Like i don't already know how to eat a crum. Anyway lets get back to the story. He takes me to a window. Meowwwww He quickly lifts the box inside and away from that noise. I am frightened and scared. He takes me back to the table with the big light. I wait in the darkness of the smelly cardboard box. Then he is gone. He comes back and then there is a noise of stabbing. Hes going to kill me! That;s what I think, hes not actually going to kill me he makes holes and there is light.  Then I am let out. I take the cums, and scuttle away to a hole by the fire place. I stay there. Later, I peep out and see the man on the couch. I go over and see what he is up to. He is asleep, with cums of a shortbread biscuit. Yum. I sneak up his arm to the crumbs, and I sit watch the TV. Mickey mouse, a great show.

Tane Mahuta Kids teach

Kids teach is where some people from a class get into groups of twos or threes and choose to teach something that they are good at. It could be a sport, crafts or even things on technology. Not everyone has to teach something.

I was with Isla and meg doing dance.
I really think it went well because the had everything planned well and set up nicely.

I enjoyed the end where we had almost had the dance done and there were lots of cool moves.

Next time maybe things shouldbe a bit more organised before we start teaching and to sort out the spaces and where we are working so we dont waist time for teaching.

I think we should do this again because it is a really good experience for kids to be the teachers and teach things they want to and to know how teachers do things.

                 Marble Roll Challenge

Today(Thursday) we made a marble roll.

We were in groups of twos or threes.

I was with Anika and Skye.We had to make a Marble run using: 6 pieces of brown paper, 2 pieces of white scrap paper,1 meter of sellotape and of course,a marble.

When we had all finished, we had a marble race.

We didn't come first but its not about winning its about the fun.

I really enjoyed working with Anika and Skye.

Kakapo!

The kakapo is a NZ parrot. 

It cannot fly because of it weight. It is green, black and brown and uses its whiskers to feel about when its awake in the night.

The Kakapo is a nocturnal bird so it is awake when we are asleep.

The Kakapo’s favorite food is the seeds from a Rimu tree so it climbs up the tree and cracks the nut open. They can live up to 100 years! And thats a long time.

England

England is a big country surrounded by the English channel, and the North sea. It also is surrounded by a bit of the Atlantic ocean. England is located in Europe, and its population is 55.62 million. England has about ninety islands surrounding it. Its a lot right?

England dosen't have any languages spoken it just has a few different accents and one of them is British.

The capital city of England is London and the biggest city is River Thames. There are a few different `major’ city's in England like Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield and more.

Nature in England is amazing.
There national flower is a Tudor Rose. The national animal is a Lion. And the national tree is an oak tree. There are a lot of native animals in England like a red deer, a hedgehog, grey seals, otters, red squirrels and much more.

The national sport(s) of England are Cricket and Soccer. England has a lot of cool thongs to do and places to visit. Stonehenge, Buckingham palace, big Ben, London eye. You can also have a swim at baths famous thermal waters.
England has lots of cool things to do and see and I would love to go there one day wouldn't you?

Elizabeth set us a challenge we had to go in 2’s or 3’s to make a chariot of fire. I worked with Skye and Anika and we made a great chariot (in the end) and we came  third in the race for everyones chariots.

Haunted House

Febuary 3 1956

One sunny afternoon, me and my best friend Annie were walking back from school a different way then normal. “Um Milly,this way is scary” “Its fine Annie” “look theres an old building” “thats not a building thats a Millionairs Mantion!” “ That mus be brickins millionair mantion the one that was being told about at the town hall!” “ lets go in” “no” “ come on Annie its fine” “ok”. So we went in and the door was very hevy and mossey and it smelt of dust and mould.Once they were inside, they saw a big clock “that clock looks scary Milly” “look theres a note, over there, under the edge ”
“Lets see” “ I will read it” I said.

“Leah was the girl waiting for her best friend Willow to come to her birthday” “But she never came” said Annie. “What about that old clock” I said. “ what about it” Annie said. “It moved’’ “no it didn’t” Annie said. “Yes look there’s the marks of where the clock was first put” “ but how did it move” Annie said. “Lets forget about it for now” “ lets go upstairs and see Leahs room” “no” said Annie. “Don’t Milly, please!” as we went up the stairs, they stopped and looked at the first room. It had cob webs everywhere and it stunk of mould and dust.

“We should go” Annie said. “Ok” Just then the cock moved out of the lounge and next to the front door where they first came in. “thats realy weird, because I feel like its trying to trap us in the mantion” “what?” “oh nothing”. So we went to the door and tried to open it but it wouldent budge. “What”.I said “it was very loose when we came in” “oh no” Annie said. “The clock has trapped us” So we ran around the the mantion trying to get out, when we came across a funny sight in the corner. We stopped and went back and had a closer look at it. Then we screamed. “ don’t tell me thats the ghost of Leah” “lets say it is” “AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH”.
