Surfing

 On the 20th of November, some kids from tangaroa went surfing. It was group B wich is always on a friday and thats the group me and my friends are in. We first helped Mr Redmond with putting on the trailer full of surfboards then we were of to the beach. We got there and got into our wetsuits and chose our surfboard then we put our leg ropes on and went surfing. It was a really good day for caching waves and im pretty sure i got over ten again. It was really fun and the water was so refreshing and i cant wait to go again next friday.

The ballet

 On the 20th of November, a group of girls from tangaroa went to the sleeping beauty ballet. We left after first break eating, as some of the girls had surfing. I had surfing and so did most of my friends. 

We got back in time to eat and put our stuff away from surfing and get in the vans. I sat with kiwa and meg on the way there. The ballet was at the isac theatre royal and it took maybe 10 minutes to get there. When we got there, it was really crowded with kids from other schools. 

The reason there was so many schools going is because the real show was in the evining and the had two practice rounds so the show was almost an hour long but it is origianally 2 hours long or longer so we only got to see half of it. Once we finally got in and took our seats the show started. We were right at the back row  but it was still good view. 

The show had two parts to it that we saw and after one part wich was like half an hour we did some streching then wached the next part.

On the way out, Helen and Sharon wanted to get a photo of us infront of the stage. We got some photos, then we went back to the vans and back to school. When we got back, the rest of our class was swimming or silent reading so we sat outside and had our lunch.

After we finished eating, it was nearly 3 'o clock so we just played in the playground nearest to our class room and then it was home time.

Math

For math this week, we have been doing work with perspective lines and 3 D shapes. 

Here is some of my work.

Surfing

 This year tangaroa has been doing class surfing. I have done it twice, and the first time i went was so good i caught over 10 waves and the water and the surf were so nice. The second time wasnt that good for me and i caught 5 waves and the water was icy cold. I always looked foward for after surfing when i get out i can get a hotchoclate. But i really enjoy going with my friends.

The new playground (Hikihiki)

On friday, the new playground at the front of the school, opend. Each class has a roster and our class had our turn at lunch break. I had two go's on the swing with my friends and i went on the spinny thing. Then we played a game of busted and we had the playground for luch break so we stayed on itfor that time.

Rubbish pick up

On the 3rd of November, a group of people from tangaroa went to pick up rubbish around the community we had groups of three or four but we had 5 wich was ok. In our group there was Me, Lily, Alexa, Jelani and Abe. we first went to the parking lot next to the hair dressers near school, and we founf heaps there. There was old broken up car parts and even old micowave parts. Everyone found alot, then we decided we should drop the rubbish back off at school then go to the next place we were going to pick up rubbish from. The next place we went to was the playground nearest school, thats where we went last time, and there was heaps of rubbish there. Me and Lily found a dead bird under a tree and we also found medication drugs too. We found alot of beer bottles and soda cans.

Polite

             Why its important to be polite

Being polite is when you introduce yourself, say hi and thankyou

And lots more. Its important because if someone like your parents came to give you breakfast in bed and you didnt say thank you, then it wouldnt make them feel good because they have done   something for you then it dosent make them feel like you appreciated what they did and if you say thank you it will make them feel good about themselves and what they did for you.

I really think its important to use manners and be polite because

People will enjoy being around someone who uses manners and is polite.

Athletics

 On the 2nd of November, 2020 we had athletics day. I was kind of nervos because i didnt get any practice with shot put or discis.              On the morning of athletics, it was 12 degrees but it felt warm with no wind. Me and Kiwa walked to school and we were both nervos for athletics. When we got into the class room we asked sharon if we could do jobs to help out with athletics instead of doing it and we ended up helping out for long jump the whole day, it sounds boring but it was really fun. Me, kiwa, Violet, Zoey and zara all helped out. We took turns with the jobs for each year group first, i did the raking, and zara did the mesuring and zoey was helping sharon with the scores and kiwa was standing at the side making sure people went the right way and violet was heping zara with the mesuring. We had break time and rotated jobs then did the same with lunch time and last break then after last break it was sprints finals, and relay teams. I dont know who won for relays but Anika came second in sprints out of yr 6 girls.

Athletics was fun to help out with and im glad i didnt do it so i was baisically nervos for nothing!

Math

 For math, we have been learning about halfing numbers by thirds, fourths, fifths and sixths.

R U B B I S H C L E A N U P

 On the 13 of october, a group of kids drom tangaroa went to the sea eagles place park to pick up rubbish. We were each in groups of two three or four. Me, Kiwa and Lily were in a group and we found AlOT of rubbish fist when we were looking in the bushes, we found lots of plastic bags with dog poo in it, and we went down the ally way to the scout den and we were the first there so we found alot of ruddish there. we found an old tyre that was quite ripped, so we took that then we found more bottles and rubbish near the end of the ally way. Then we went accross the road and again we were the first there so we grabbed the most rubbish then near the boxing place and there was so many boxes! we grabbed as many as we could because we were in a competition with violet, zoey and zaras team. They found a pool noodle and some other rubbish. It was hard to get back to school beacause we were all holding so much rubbish. 

I think we all got so much rubbish!

M U F T I D A Y !

 Today was mufti day and we only had about 40 or so people in our class because the rest were skiing at porters ski feild. When the bell rang for school to start, we did the roll and then we carried on with some of our work then we played kahoot! it was really fun then we went out on the back feild and played games and talked and did whatever, then it was break time and Me, Zoey, Zara and Violet played tag. I couldnt be botherd playing so i just played on the playground and wached. Then we had eating time and after, we did a game called quizlet, an it was a fun way of doing maths. Then once we finished, we went and hung around outside for a bit and played more games and me and my friends made dasiy chains! then we carried on doing the daisys, soon it was time for eating, and then we ate. and now we are doing blog comments and blog posting and after we are going to play more games and have a bit of free time.

I really enjoyed our day at school today.

B O N E C A R V I N G !

 Every wednesday, a group of kids from Tangaroa and Ata hapara, go to the school hall to do bone carving. First we did. 

i will add this bit in later when i remeber what it was called!

Then after, we did some bone carving. first we started by choosing the piece of bone, then we sanded it untill it was smooth. the next few weeks, we sanded the bone, and the bone had been already cut for us once we did our design. We spent alot of time sanding them, then we started pollishing them. We used a rag and some pollishing stuff then we had to rub really hard on the bone, untill it started to get shiny. Then last wednesday, they were all done and we had to put the quard (string) on it.          This is how my one turned out.

T E C H !

For tech today, (Thur. 2/7/20) we had sewing and digital. (as we have every thursday) We did sewing first then digital. We cut out the backs of the pillow cover and our decorative fabric. We had to ion and sew the edges of the first piece of fabric. We did 15 mm tall and we had to ion that twice around the edge. So we just iond the 15 mm legnth of the edge the we foled it to match the first crese then iond it over again. Then we pinned it to hold it together, after we sewed along the edge and I actually couldnt find my second peice so I helped other people with thiers. After we were packing up, I found my other peice And I didnt get to finish it of. Then we had break time and I sat with Zara and Kiwa. Next we had digital. Personally I dont really like going on a computer the whole time but its still fine. We had to make our charecters for our online game. And since we earned 30 tokens we got free time.   

This was in my drafts so it was a while ago!

M A T H !

 Today at math we did quick 10 again. I improved because i got 76 out of 100 and last time i think i got 71 or 72. My last goal was to get a higher score then my last and i finished my goal. My next goal is to finish more then 80! Bye!

100 Questions!

Today in math we did a 100 question sheet and my score was 88/100.

I achieved my goal because i got more than I got the last time I did the sheet. The last time i got 72.

This weeks goal is to finish the whole sheet i missed 12 questions.

I like doing these sheets because they are fun and they are an easy thing to do before the hard math!                 

Botanic gardens

B O T A N I C   G A R D E N S

On Thursday, 29th of July, a group of kids from Tangaroa went to the botanic gardens. We learnt about the birds and trees there and we did some fun activities. First we got into groups of 2 and we each had a native, endemic or threatend animal from Nz clipped to our back on a lamenated card and we had to ask each other questions to find out what the card had on it. After some learning about those animals and when they came to Nz, or were discoverd we walked to a different spot and we did some more activities. First there was a group of 10 that went to do an activitie in the forest and the other group did an activity on birds on the grassy area. Kiwa and I were in the first group so we went to the forest and the activity we had to do was to find a specific tree and we were again in groups of 2 and me and Kiwa were in a group. We had a tree called the Totara tree and we had a map with a number on it and we had to find the number 4 then we would be near the tree we needed to find. Once we found it we had to do some sheet work and answer some questions about what the tree looked like. Next we had to find our way back to where we started. We all had to share our answers with the other groups. Then we swapped over so we went and did the bird activity an the other group went and did the forest activity. For the bird activity, we started on behind a rope because it was the starting line for the race and we had to use carpet sqaures to not touch the grass. It shows how the birds have to stop on safe spots to get to thier desentation for the summer.

M A T H

For math today we did some more mesuring.
So we did a challenge where we got on the bikes and rode until we thought we were a metre from where we started and see who got the closest to a metre. I got probably a full metre acording to the ruler. And here is a photo of how much i got.
I got a full metre it looked a tiny bit under a metre but that was just the end of the ruler.

For math today we did a ruler trick. For this trick we only used a ruler and a pair of two or three people. First one person holds the ruler at the top and the other person puts there fingers apart like this.

B O O K S !

Lately i have been reading a book series called the land of storys. Its a really interesting series about a girl and her brother and they get given a book by thier gran and the magically fall into the book and land in the fairytale world and they go on heaps of adventures and meet all the princesses n stuff. I deffenetly reccomend this series because the writer has great information added to the book and its safe for kids all ages but younger ones may not understand it. Here is what the series look like.

Black Beauty

Black Beauty.

For literacy, im reading Black Beauty. We all are in groups for literacy and all the groups have to read a different book. Im in a group with Isla, Clara, Camryn, Olive, Stevie-Lee, Shafrin.
We are all reading Black Beauty. Each week we have to all read 10 chapters a week, im on chapter 10. So far, the book isn't that bad, the language is kind of hard to understand. The book is about a Horse that was born into a friendly farm with nice people and he lived with his mum for his early years. By the way, his name (the horse) was called Black Beauty. So he gets sold and leaves to a different farm and I havent really read that much because it isnt really my style of book because its from the horses point of view although my favourite animal is horses I would preffer a book not from the horse point of view.

That is because, you cant roll two dice and it be a one because two dice will allways have a number on it and the lowest roll would be 2. Im going to explain it in numbers now.

Thursday T E C H !

                                 Tech!!
 Sewing. At tech we did sewing, we are making pillows. Today we started off by getting a practice peice of fabric to do the length of how the inside the pillow, we all had to show the teacher what ours looked like, once we were all finished the practice ones, we moved on and she talked about what we were going to do for the REAL thing and we each got a piece of the inside of the pillow and we had to mesure it and mark it with chalk so we would know where NOT to sew otherwise we couldnt put the stuffing in! We then had to put pins around the edges of the slip and after, we went back to our sewing machines and sewed along the outline of the pillow, and leave a space for the stuffing to get put in. I had finished mine a bit earlier and some other people too, so the teacher cut the edges of the pillow and I had to put it in the right way then I had to get a pointy stick to make the edges more triangular. Once I had finnished, I ironed the pillow, then I was done!!
I cant wait to continue my pillow next week!

Community Service

Community Sevice For William pike.

On wednesday the 10th of march, Zara, Kiwa and I brought baking to school. We each baked something different the night before then brang it to school the next day. I made M&M cookies and chocolate chip cookies, Zara made blueberry choc chip muffins and Kiwa made brownie. The day we brought them to school, we packed them in brown paper bags and put lables on them to say what they included. We put one of each thing into each bag it took us a whole break to do it but we finally finished. We had to also make sure that no one else would poke thier nose into the bag to see what was inside them so we put some "do not eat" and  "do not touch" signs out on the table. Then, after lunch, we went in the school van to the community fridge. We parked up and sharon walked us up to the fridge to give the baking. The people were very thankfull for the baking and it made us all feel good inside. Then we walked over to the car park by the super market because we had to wait for some other kids to come back from the super market wth some food for their cooking. When the arrived back to the van, we drove back t school and continued the rest of the afternoon. I hope to do some more stuff together again!

Haiku poems have syllables. The first sentence has to have 5 syllables, the second one with 7 syllables and the third sentence with 5 again. So a haiku poem has three sentences. So it could be mabye three words for the first sentence but only have 5 syllables.

What is a syllable?

A syllable is when a word is broken up into groups of three or however many claps it takes to say the word.
Just like this .
Dog has one syllable because it is a short word and you cant break it up into 2 or more groups.
Syllable has 3 syllables because it is broken up in to three groups like here: Syllable. It sounds like this: Sil-a-bill so thats sil wich is 1 syllable, a wich is 2 syllables and bill wich is 3 syllables.

Tech

                               Tech!!!
Today, (28/05/20) we went to tech. It was our last lesson on finishing the stuff we were working on because lock down made it slow down for us to finish our things so we extended it. So next week my group, (7 d) is doing sewing and digital. Im really excited for next week. Today at tech, I did plastics first and finished my tic tac toe game and I made 3 curly wurlys a red one, orange one and a white/clear one but I gave the red curly wurly to Lily. 

After plastics, we went to cooking and me, Ava and Skye were in a group and we all made a batch of choc chip cookies and they were really yum.

Mobile devices

When to use your mobile device
It is really important that you are not on your mobile device all the time and here are some reasons why:
Shows/movies, plays.
If you are on it during a show or play, the light from your device could distract other people from the show. So when you need to take a call if you are in a show, then silently walk out of the place to take your call so no one is effected by the distraction from your device.

Work.

If you are in a meeting and you are on your phone, it really rude to the people who are hosting the meeting or are running it and for the other people in the meeting. They and you can both get distracted from the meeting and doing thier job and the person who is running it might feel hurt that you are spending your time on your device and not lisinging to what they have to say. If you relly need to take a call during a meeting, then either excuse your self from the room or dont answer and put your phone on silent.

Family/friend time.

If you and your family or friends are out having dinner or lunch together then it wouldnt be very nice if you are playing or texting other people who arent actually there with you. Because you should be spending quality time with people in real life and having fun together.

Overall, I think that there should be a rule for the time people spend on devices. We can atleast take time of it and only go on when we need to!

C O O K I E S !

Choc Chip Cookies!

Today I made chocolate chip cookies. I didn't use a recipe I just used a box with pre-made mix from the super market. I only had to use one large egg and 80 grams of butter.

Method:

1. Melt butter and crack egg and combine well. Heat oven to 160 fan forced.

2. Add in your dry ingredients/pre-made and mix!

3. Add in choc chips if you want to.

4. Roll batter in your hands and place 5cm apart on the tray.

5. Get a fork and press in the middle if you want.

6. Then put them in the oven and wait for 10 to 15 minutes.

7. Wait for them to cool.

                                         ENJOY!!!

pt 2 of the school basement story

Pt 2 CAUTION Do not read this if you are scared of horror or DEATH

(sorry to any littler kids who are reading this)

I wounded if I should open the door and go in the room, I looked around to check that no one was about. The coast was clear. I started to walk towards the door and as I approached the door, there was a bashing noise coming from the hallway behind me. I swished around faster than the speed of light, and to my surprise, there was nothing. I wounded if someone was hiding somewhere so I ran over to the corner of the steamy room and hid behind the gigantic bin. I heard footsteps somewhere in the distance. They echoed down the long passage way and i was scared to death to know who was coming down here at this time of night. Well I suppose that I shouldn't be down here at this time of night either, but otherwise I would be getting called chicken for the rest of the school year and I already got humiliated by Amanda, Alice and Emily embarrassing me and giving me stupid dares to do so I wont get called some stupid name like duck poop or something. Anyway, back to the story. I listen again but the footsteps had stopped and it didn't sound like anyone was about so I slowly creeped out of behind the bin and waited just in case there was any more noise. There wasn't, so I tiptoed to the door, and pushed it open. Your probably wondering why I did this, but I actually have no idea why it was kind of a dum thing to do, you will see why in just a sec. When the door was fully open, I walked in and what I saw was HORRIFYING. Kids bodies hung up all in a rack above me dripping dark red puddles of blood on to the floor. It stunk so bad that I couldn't bare it any more. I screamed so loud the whole universe could have heard me. I was shook en bye the sight of the bodies and wondering who did it. But I had and idea of who. It was Mr. Sour the school principal. No wonder kids have been missing and getting lost. And I hope I wasn't the next one to be sliced!!

Guinea pig Book Fort.

Today i made a guinea pig book fort and the guinea pigs love it.

Here are some photos.

It was really easy to make thos because all you need is alot of books and a small animal!

And then stack the books along side each other and on top of each other to make little caves and there you go your very own hand made small animal play fort!! If you have alot of books siting around your house, and a small pet make some use of the books and why not try this book fort Technique. Some fun for your pets!!

short story

A scared cry echoed in the distance. I stopped. I didn't know if I should be doing this creeping around the school basement at night. For some reason it was all misty and hot like someone was boiling something. I should have chickened out of the stupid dare. I new I should of. Then I saw a flash of a torch. I turned and ran back to the door but it was locked I was banging and banging but no one was there. I looked out the peephole and I could see Amanda Alice and Emily all laughing. So I screamed their names and they looked up. Let me out! I said but they did nothing but turn their backs and leave. So now here I am stuck in the forbidden school basement. I didn't know what was going on so I went and looked around there was another door. It had a sign saying enter if you dare.

                            Home School

Over the past three or four weeks, Nz has been in lock down due to Covid 19 and everyone has to do online learning or work from books. I have been doing alot of book work and reading. I have also have been playing outside alot. Playing soccer with my brother and learning how to fly my dads drone and how to take pictures with the drones camera. It was really awesome. I have also been doing baking and cooking. Just the other day i made lunch for me and my brother and mum. And the other week my guinea pigs had babies and i have been spending lots of time with them and the other guinea pigs. Over the last year, i have had 14 guinea pigs and seven have passed away or gone missing and i have seven left. I have made a couple of hiding spots for the guinea pigs to hide and play in. Over all, i really enjoy staying home with my family and pets and i cant wait to go any where else except from home!

                         The way back
On the way back from camp, the 6th of march we had a lot of stopping. We were supposed to be back at 2 40 but we were still half way through the track at that time. We stopped at broard park and everyone was so tired. Then we had to carry on back to school. we got back at 3 20. I was so tired when we got back. But im glad we made it back.

Surfing

          On Friday Mr Redmond took a group of people surfing at          north beach. There were two groups and I was in the second one        with Olive, Sophie B, Skye, Lily and Meg. It was so cold and         windy down at the beach and everyone was so cold while they         were getting changed. As soon as we were all in our wet suits,     we were ready to Surf. We all thought the water was going to be so cold, but it was actually really warm. I caught 5 waves and then      I got out because I got cold. I had a great time surfing and cant         wait to go again.
