Mobile devices

When to use your mobile device
It is really important that you are not on your mobile device all the time and here are some reasons why:
Shows/movies, plays.
If you are on it during a show or play, the light from your device could distract other people from the show. So when you need to take a call if you are in a show, then silently walk out of the place to take your call so no one is effected by the distraction from your device.

Work.

If you are in a meeting and you are on your phone, it really rude to the people who are hosting the meeting or are running it and for the other people in the meeting. They and you can both get distracted from the meeting and doing thier job and the person who is running it might feel hurt that you are spending your time on your device and not lisinging to what they have to say. If you relly need to take a call during a meeting, then either excuse your self from the room or dont answer and put your phone on silent.

Family/friend time.
If you and your family or friends are out having dinner or lunch together then it wouldnt be very nice if you are playing or texting other people who arent actually there with you. Because you should be spending quality time with people in real life and having fun together.

Overall, I think that there should be a rule for the time people spend on devices. We can atleast take time of it and only go on when we need to!

  1. Kia ora Eden, thanks for sharing your views on mobile devices. I agree with you that if you're out with friends/family it does seem rude if they're sitting their on their mobile devices. It's all about having a good balance. Keeping your head down all the time on your mobile device might mean you miss something of interest that passes you by. There's a good video on YouTube 'Look up,' by Gary Turk worth watching. Elizabeth K

  2. Eden you raise some very good points. Many adults have not learnt how to manage their device use very well. Lots of adults still use their phones while driving for example. I am thinking there are many more situations where it isn't considered polite to use your phone. I wonder if there are situations where we should be using our mobile devices more but we don't or maybe we forget to? What do you think?

    1. Hi Paul. Thanks for commenting on my blog it was really helpful advice. I agree with your comment. I also think a lot of adults use their mobile device a bit much. They maybe are contacting someone but it would be a bit better if they did it when no one else is with them so it isn't so rude. Eden

  3. Tena koe Eden, I absolutely love how you explained how you shouldn’t use your mobile device during a important situation for example, when your phone is ringing you should put it on silent or excuse yourself and take the call I think speaking from my heart that this post is helpful for people who need to learn manners for certain situations, like spending time with whanau etc I feel ashamed that I myself do that when my mother comes to visit me which is a behavior I need to improve on I hope you’ll do better and better in the near future, Nga mihi Natalija.
